John J. Good, Jr., of Milton, passed away at home Wednesday April 24^th after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Devoted husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan) Good.  Brother of Pat, Anne and predeceased by Edward and Robert.  Loving father of Carol and husband Chris Dolan, Brian, Richard and wife Cheryl, Thomas, Grace, Gerald, Christina and the late John and Diane. John is survived by his 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Paul.

Per H. Nylen, of Dorchester, MA passed away peacefully at home on April 17th, 2019 at the ripe old age of 90. Per leaves his treasured wife of 58 years, Margaret (Peg) Flynn Nylen, and five children: Ellen Nylen of Worcester; Susan Nylen and her husband Roberto Quesada Diaz of Malden; Carl Nylen and his wife Lisa of Ipswich; Peter Nylen and his wife Kerry of Portland, OR; and Paul Nylen of Portland, OR. Per is also survived by 7 much-loved grandchildren; Amalia, Sarah, Nicolás, Lucía, Emily, Manuel and Finn. He is pre-deceased by his parents Mauritz and Asta (Norling) Nylen; brothers Gustav and Lars; and sisters Karin and Helen.

Per was born in Abington on December 13,1928 to Swedish immigrant parents. He grew up with a strong connection to Swedish traditions, holidays and food. He graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1946 and enlisted soon after in the US Army, following in the footsteps of his brothers Gustav and Lars, both of whom served as paratroopers during WWII.  He turned 18 years of age on a troop ship heading to Japan, and served from 1946-48 with the Military Police in Yokohama. His service in Japan left him with a profound lifelong appreciation for Japanese culture, art and design.

After being discharged from the Army with education benefits from the GI Bill, Per enrolled at UMass Amherst in the Landscape Architecture program and graduated in 1952. While working as a landscape architect in South Deerfield he met Peggy Flynn and they were married in 1961, settling in Florence (Northampton). Per practiced Landscape Architecture for over 40 years, first with his own firm in Northampton and later in Duxbury. Upon his retirement Per and Peg moved to Dorchester where they have happily resided for 20 years in the Lower Mills neighborhood.

Per had many interests and talents that he shared generously with those around him. He was an excellent cook, gardener, carpenter, clam-digger, cribbage-player and music-lover with a deep appreciation for the natural world. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, attending many games at Fenway and Pawtucket and in 2014 travelled to Spring Training in Florida.

Visitation and service is Sunday, April 28th from 11:00 – 1:00 at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester, with a reception to follow.

Burial is private.

Laura M. (Contestable) Martin,94, of North Quincy formerly of Dorchester passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Laura was born in Quincy on October 19, 1924 to Nicholas and Florence (Taylor) Contestable. After marrying the love of her life, Richard she moved to Dorchester, where she raised her family. She worked as a Manager of Central Supply at the Carney Hospital of 25 years.

Steven F. Duca, 72 of Weymouth, passed away, Friday April 26^th with his family by his side.

Steve held many passions in his life such as playing the bugle for the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed playing golf with friends and for 15 years was a golf course starter at President’s Golf Course in Quincy. Steve enjoyed many Boston sports and loved rooting for the Boston College Eagle basketball team, as he was a season ticket holder for many years.  After receiving his undergraduate degree in Psychology and his MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Steve spent over 30 years as a social worker for the City of Boston.

Born in Boston to the late Frances (Ritchie) Duca.  Loving brother of James Duca and his wife Denise of Florida and Cheryl (Duca) Verney and her husband Robert of Quincy.  Beloved uncle of Robert J. Verney and his wife Christina of Braintree and the late Michael S. Duca.  Great uncle to Wesley Verney of Braintree.

Sean James O’Shea passed away suddenly at his Durham, NC home, on April 12, 2019.  The son of Daniel and Claire O’Shea of Milton, MA, he was brother to Brenda, Brian, Sheila and Patrick.  Sean graduated Milton High School, attained a B.S. degree in Economics at University of Massachusetts, and a Master of Library Science from the University of South Florida.  He created a consumer economics program “Dollars and sense”, which was well received by the Durham County library system.

An avid sports fan, his heart was broken when the ball went through Buckner’s legs.  He loved the Celtics and enjoyed being a Patriots fan while living in the South.  Sean had a passion for music, particular jazz and blues, and loved ancient Irish folklore.  He had a curious mind, was an avid researcher and a talented writer.

He will be missed by his family, including numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his co-workers at the Centre for Homeownership in Hillsboro, NC.

A graveside service will be held at Milton Cemetery, May 4 at a time to be announced.

Johny G. Goyau, 25, of Hyde Park tragically left this earth on Sunday, April 21, 2019 after an automobile accident.

Johny was born on March 1, 1994, at Boston Medical Center in Boston, MA to his loving parents, Jean George E. Goyau and Marie Laguerre-Goyau. He grew up in Boston, attended St. Matthew’s Elementary School, matriculated to the William Barton Rogers Middle School, went on to attend East Boston High School, transferred to and graduated from Boston Day and Evening Academy in 2017. He later attended Year Up. Year Up is a rigorous, holistic program that aided Johny with his personal and professional development. Johny’s long-term goal was to obtain his bachelor’s degree in business and to ultimately become an entrepreneur.

He always had a smile on his face that positively impacted others. Being around Johny gave people around him a sense of belonging. His passion to help others led him to the Hyde Park Community Center where he volunteered and tutored students after school. It also motivated him to pour into his work at Brewster EMT Company and most recently into his role as a transporter at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center.

Johny loved to play basketball, to dance and to make others happy. He was always looking fresh; he had a great sense of style. Most of all, Johny loved his family and friends. He shared a special bond with several people, paramount among those bonds was his friendship with Romario Cameron who sadly passed alongside Johny.

He is survived by his loving parents, Jean George E. Goyau and Marie Laguerre-Goyau. By six siblings- his two sisters Kathleen Goyau and Sherlene Goyau and his four brothers Gregory Goyau, Jeffrey Goyau, Stanley Goyau, and Jude Goyau. By his two nephews, Jakori Goyau and Shaquin Barrett and three nieces Gabriella Goyau, Woodjena Goyau and Aajaylah Goyau.

He is further survived by the Jospeh, Laguerre, Louissaint, Osias, Cadet, Cantave, Seignon, Garcon, and Compre’ families and by countless friends.

Johny will be forever missed and will always share a special place in our hearts.

A celebration of Johny’s life will be held at Mount of Olives Haitian Evangelical Church, 1285 Hyde Park Ave., Hyde Park, MA on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 9-11AM.  Family and friends are invited.  Visiting hours will be prior to the service from 8-9 AM. Interment will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

The Honorable Eugene G. Panarese (retired Presiding Justice, Chelsea District Court) died peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Judge Panarese was born in Chelsea to the late Louis A. Panarese and Ella (Rauseo) Panarese. He graduated from Chelsea High School, Harvard College ‘50 and Boston University School of Law ‘53. He served as an Assistant Attorney General before opening a law practice in Boston. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Michael Dukakis in 1988. He was instrumental in building the new Chelsea District Court. He retired as Presiding Justice in 1998.

He is survived by his loving wife Margaret (Sullivan) Panarese, and his children, Mark J. Panarese & his wife Sasa of Milton; Ellen Panarese Gibson & her husband Nathan of Newton; Matthew T. Panarese & his wife Pamela of Villanova, Pennsylvania;  Luke C. Panarese & his wife Nina of Milton; Maria Panarese Dala & her husband Ruperto of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, and 14 cherished grandchildren with whom he loved spending time.

Francis “Frank” J. McCarthy, 92, of Lynnfield, passed away on May2, 2019 at home. He was the beloved husband of Frances E. (Chisholm) McCarthy for 51 years.

Born in Dorchester on November 11, 1926, eight years to the day after the end of World War I, he was brought up and lived in the shadow of Meeting House Hill in Dorchester.  Frank was a proud graduate of the Mather Elementary School and of Boston Latin School.  After graduating from Boston Latin School, Frank served in the Army Air Force at the end of World War II.  Upon returning home, he attended MIT, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Tufts University Medical School. 

After spending his first forty plus years living in Dorchester, he and his young family moved to Lynnfield, MA in 1970.  Frank started his medical career as a general practitioner on the South Shore of Boston and then as a psychiatrist at the Melrose/Wakefield Hospital – for a time, he was chief of psychiatry at the hospital – and in his office in Wakefield, MA.

He was a world traveler, sometimes spending weeks away at a time, visiting places Americans did not necessarily visit in the 1950’s and 1960’s, including Egypt, Syria and Jordan, Post World War II Germany, Franco’s Spain, and Central and South America.  After having his family, they continued to travel far and wide, including multiple trips to Europe and the Caribbean.  His favorite place in the world was Paris, France, having visited about eight times.

In addition to traveling, he enjoyed taking his family to historical spots, going to museums, and eating at restaurants from greasy spoons to five star establishments.  He also loved to ski, and he especially relished spending his summers at the family’s Rockport, MA cottages.  Spending time with his family always put a smile on his face – he valued those times. 

Frank was a lifelong learner, especially of languages.  He put his family first instilling in them the ability to think critically and thoughtfully.  He also impressed upon them a sense of adventure and wonder. 

In addition to his dear wife, Frank is survived by his three cherished children, Eileen Cakouros and her husband, Jason, Edward J. McCarthy and his wife, Nicole, and Andrew J. McCarthy and his wife, Melissa; his five grandchildren, Anna Cakouros, Drew Cakouros, Maggie McCarthy, Fiona McCarthy, and Callum McCarthy; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws along with their children.

Carroll, Virginia (Curley) of Milton died on May 9, 2019 surrounded by her family.  Loving wife of the late Forrest W. Carroll, Jr.  Cherished Mother of Forrest W. Carroll, III of Virginia, Mark E. Carroll of California, Robert P. Carroll of Hanover, John M. Carroll and his wife Pamela of North Easton and Virginia Carroll of Milton.  Sister of Ruth Scully of Hingham, and the late Philip, Robert and Edward “Ned” Curley.  Cherished grandmother of twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

Virginia was the office manager for Thatcher Farm Dairy in Milton for 20 years, retiring at the age of 80.  Prior to that she worked at the Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston. Virginia was very active at her parish, St. Elizabeth’s in Milton, and was a long time member of The Milton’s Women’s Club. Virginia enjoyed family, friends, walking the beach, bird watching, and gardening.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Beloved son of the late Edward A. and Mildred Beale. Brother of Richard Beale and his late wife Doris of Scituate, Sr. Maureen Beale SCH of Quincy, the late Edward Beale and late wife Doris and the late Charles Beale. Brother-in-law of Renata Beale. He served for many years as a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston.

James was born in Tipperary, Ireland.  He immigrated to the United States as a teenager and later joined the United States Army.  James was a self-employed contractor; he was a talented carpenter.  He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved visiting Ireland.  He enjoyed music, especially “The Doors”, horseracing, reading the daily paper.  An avid sports fan; James loved his Boston sports teams, Patriots, Bruins and Red sox.  Most of all James cherished spending time with his family who were the cornerstone of his life.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved him. Susan (Stanley) M. McGillowey,74, of Milton passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Born in Boston, on September 26, 1944 to her beloved parents William C. and Molly M. (O’Grady) Stanley.

Gina was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti.  She was a Social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years.  Gina was a dedicated wife and mother who truly loved her family.
