Peter Brendan Kenny, of Dorchester, died April 6, 2017 peacefully at home.

Beloved husband of 57 years Maureen (Faherty) Kenny of Dorchester. Loving father of Margie Ryan of Dorchester and her late husband Paul, Bernadette Kenny and her wife Lori Casinghino of Milton, Robyn Londergan of Quincy, Catherine Kenny of Braintree and her late husband Brendan P. McGrath, Mary (Mamie) Kenny and Antonio Maycott of Cambridge, Julie Foley and her husband Mark of Quincy and the late Michael B. Kenny.  Devoted brother of Sr. Inez Kenny and Donal Kenny both of Sligo Ireland, Frank Kenny of Georgia and the late Eileen Paulsen, Hugh Kenny and Terence Kenny. Cherished grandfather of Courtney and Joseph Dion, Maggie, Julie, Patrick, and Sammi Ryan, Michael, Richard, and John Londergan, Liam and Hugh McGrath, Julia McQuaid and Shannon Foley. Devoted Great Grandfather of Peter, Luke, and Maggie Dion. Peter is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends who will miss him dearly.

Peter was born and raised in his beloved Glen Farne, County Leitrim, Ireland. He first came to the United States in 1954 and served in the Unites States Navy as a proud member of the Seabees battalion. He was a member of the McKeon Post in Dorchester, Leitrim Society of Boston, Knights of Columbus, and the Irish Social Club. Peter loved his family who were the cornerstone of his entire life. He will be dearly missed by them and all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Gregory Church, Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, Monday April 10 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

Stephen T. Berry, of Pembroke, April 5, 2017.

Beloved son of Thomas Berry of Pembroke and Sonja (Soper) Berry of Plymouth. Brother of Matthew Berry and MacKenzie Berry. Grandson of Elizabeth Pinney of Braintree and Steve Pinney of Pembroke and the late Henry and Viola Berry of Milton. Stephen is survived by his girlfriend Emily Verrochio and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Stephen enjoyed all that the outdoors had to offer – fishing, boating, dirt biking, snowmobiling and skiing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, Monday April 10 at 10:30 Am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Sunday 3-6 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Alphon Atkinson

Alphon Ivor Atkinson was born June 22, 1945 to Gilbert Atkinson and Ruby Dixon Brown in Clarendon, Jamaica. He grew up in Cedar Grove District, Mandeville with his grandmother, Gladys Morrison. He attended Manchester High School where he excelled academically. He immigrated to the United States in 1970, and pursued a career as a master electrician in New York City. He moved to Boston and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He worked at General Electric in the aircraft engine division where he was proficient at repairing electronic circuits and control. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner of Atkinson Electric. Throughout his local community, he was known for his reliable and dedicated service.

He peacefully departed this life at his home in Milton, Massachusetts  on Saturday, April 2, 2017. He was a devoted, family oriented person who enjoyed the company of loving family and friends. His tenderness and compassion endeared him to all who knew and loved him. His primary focus in life was pleasing those he loved. His irresistible smile and contagious enthusiasm made him truly unforgettable in every way. His charming personality, amazing sense of humor and striking good looks took the world by storm. He was the center of attraction and a force to be reckoned with; yet the blissful sound of his laughter was like animal magnetism to those he encountered.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Carmen Atkinson; daughter Althea Davis, two sons: Anthony Atkinson and Brian Atkinson; one sister, Steflyn Wegg; two brothers, Glen Atkinson and Keith Brown; three grandchildren: Tariah Badwah, Michael Atkinson, Sanaa Atkinson; fourteen nieces and nephews: Natasha, Andrea, Latoya, Asheree, Tiffany, Ashley, Krystal, Christina, Sophia, Henry, Richard, Kevin, Terry, Vernard;  uncles: Arnold Shaw, David Atkinson, Aaron Atkinson and Roy Gayle; Aunt Joyce Trowers along with a host of family  and friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., LOWER MILLS on Friday, April 14 from 5-8PM. The funeral service will be held Saturday at the Church of Christ at 10:30AM. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Mildred “Millie” Horn

Horn_MildredcolorforwebpageHorn, Mildred Mary “Millie” (Walker) Of Dorchester died peacefully on April 9th after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 77.  Born in Dorchester in 1939, Millie graduated from Dorchester High School in 1957.  She attended The Cambridge School of Business and worked for many years at The New England Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Boston. She raised her family in South Boston in the 1970s through the period of public school desegregation, insisting that all three of her boys attend school daily and not adhere to any organized boycotts. In retirement, Millie volunteered at The Epiphany School in Dorchester.

Millie is survived by her loving husband, Jim Horn, of 28 years. They were avid patrons of the arts and traveled extensively including South America, Europe and across North America. She is predeceased by her first husband, John DeCosta, who died in 1977.  She is survived by her three sons, Edward DeCosta, of Morgantown, West Virginia, James DeCosta, of Madison, CT, and Michael DeCosta, of Brookfield, CT, her beloved daughter-in laws, Linda, Tracy, and Dawn, 8 grandchildren, and a great grandson Vincent Anthony DeCosta born earlier this month.  She was also a surrogate mother to several nieces, nephews and neighborhood children whom she cared for and helped raise. She lived by the mantra, “it takes a village”.  She was admired by countless longtime friends and many strangers who instantly became her friend when they met her.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 20, at Saint Mark’s Church, 1725 Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester, at 10 o’clock. Donations can be made to The Epiphany School, 154 Centre  St. Dorchester, MA 02124

Joan M. Torraco (McCarthy) of Quincy died on April 13, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Americo Rick Torraco. Loving mother of Richard Torraco and his wife Rosemary of Nebraska, Robert and his wife Mary Torraco of Hingham, Joanne Harney and her husband John of Reading and Kathleen Torraco and her husband Bob Creech of Hull. Sister of the late Catherine Mariani, Mary, John and Joseph McCarthy. Cherished grandmother of Lauren, Maureen and Nicholas Torraco, William and Catherine Harney, Brian Sorensen and his wife Chelsey and Christine Sorensen. Great-grandmother to Celia Lynn Sorensen. Joan is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Joan was born in Boston, she attended Saint Gregory grammar school and graduated from Saint Gregory High School and attended Boston Clerical School. She was a member of the Quincy Tennis Club, Quincy Historical Society and was a former auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Joan was an active member of Saint Agatha Parish. She was Treasurer of Saint Agatha Parish Guild and Quincy Tennis Club. Most of all Joan loved her family who were the most important aspect of her life. She will be missed by all those who had the pleasure to have known her.

Christensen, Janet for website onlyJanet  M.  Christensen, age 82, died at her home in Milton, April 16, 2017.

Janet was born and raised in Milton, graduating from Milton High School. She graduated from University of Massachusetts at Amherst with degrees  in French and Food Science, continuing her education at Boston University to receive a Master’s  degree in communications.

Janet worked at the New England Dairy and Food Council, was the Food Editor for the Boston Herald Newspaper, co-hosted WGBH “The Cook-in Show” with Joe Kelly, and completed her career working at the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture promoting the use of produce from local farms.

Janet was a long time member of the Milton Republican Committee and a Town Meeting member. She was a founding member of the Milton Farmers Market, as well as one of the founding members of the Boston Public Food Market.

Janet was the beloved sister of Joan Eames of Gaithersburg, MD and the late Elinor Adler.  Aunt of Arthur Adler of RI, Pamela Adlersmith of  VT and Caroline Brasler of VA. Cousin of Sidney Worthen of Milton.

Funeral Service in First Congregational Church of Milton, 495 Canton Avenue, Milton,  Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 AM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, she was a graduate of St. Gregory High School and Quincy Junior College. Mrs. Kelleher raised her children in Quincy. She is a Registered Nurse and was the former Director of Nursing at Presidential Nursing & Rehab, Quincy and currently employed at Pierce Middle School, Milton.

Her children and grandchildren are her greatest joy.

Loving mother of Linda Kelleher and her spouse Karen of Tampa, FL, Susan Gaughan and her husband Richard of Braintree, Laura Phelan and her husband John of Milton, Mary Ann O’Rourke and her husband Gerard of Braintree and Mark Kelleher and his wife Tricia of Kingston. She was beloved by her family and many friends.

Kenol Bernard

Born on May 15th, 1952, Kenol Bernard came into this world ready to make his mark. As a child, he was known as a playful mischievous prankster but very adored by his family and friends. In his early 20’s, he become a first time father to a baby boy. While living in Haiti, Kenol developed his love for music and instruments, specifically the guitar. He was also known for his mastery in numbers which lead him to attend school for accounting for a year before moving to America.

Kenol came to Boston in the early 80s to seek out a prosperous life with his family.. He first spent many years working at Legal Sea Food  in their distribution area, where he met many life long friends and his ex-wife, Mercia Jean-Bernard, the mother of his 3 daughters. He later on began working as cab driver for the Independent Taxi Operators Association(ITOA). He worked as a cab driver  for over 20 years and learned the streets of Boston like the back of his hands.

Kenol was known for his hard working, generous nature and his die-hard loyalty as a Celtics Fan. He was also known for his impeccable style, self-proclaimed title of the families “Best Dressed”. Towards the end of his life, If he wasn’t watching his Celtics play, you could almost guarantee you’d find him with his pen, penny, and reading glasses engulfed in his scratch tickets.

He was the beloved  son of the late Philius and Marie Rose Celina( Napoleon) Bernard. Beloved father to his four children, Kenny Junior Bernard, Kencia Bernard, Kerley Bernard, and Dorika Bernard. Beloved grandfather to his four grandchildren, Kendrick Daniel Bernard, Kaidence Joy McManus, Kelina Dia Bernard and Karlens Kenol Bernard. Kenol is also survived by his brothers and Sisters, Philius Bernard Jr., Ouilmene Marlene Bernard, Marime Dickson, Elsie Bernard, Marie Chantal Bernard, Philippe Bernard and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Preceded in death by his brother, Pierre Bernard.

Bauer, William R. “Billy B.”, 92, of Milton, formerly of Dorchester, April 27, 2017. Bill was a U. S. Navy WWII Veteran. He retired from the Boston Naval Shipyard and ended his gov’t career at NAVALEX (DOD). He was a member of DAV and OFD. Father of William A. and Robert C. Bauer. Grandfather of Joseph Bauer, Jennifer Spadafora and William A. Bauer, Jr. Forty-five years ago, Bill walked into Sally and Karen’s lives and never left them until today. A graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Off Connery Street, Bourne, Tuesday May 2nd at 12:45 PM. All are welcome. Jean E. (O’Donnell) Akerley, 87 of Quincy and Dorchester, April 28. Beloved wife of the late Albert J. Akerley.  Loving mother to Susan Akerley of Quincy.  Sister of the late William, Paul and Robert O’Donnell.  She is survived by her sister Marie Madden of Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews. Jean was a devoted member of St. Agatha Parish in Milton, a long-time employee of the New England Telephone Company (now Verizon), and an avid dancer all of her life. Marguerite Marie Clancy was born August 2, 1927 and went home to God on April 29, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Matthew F. and Marie J. Clancy. She is the beloved sister of Marie Anne (Clancy) Lombardi and the late Edward P. Lombardi and was predeceased by her brother, Francis E. Clancy and his wife, Pauline (Bulger) Clancy. Marguerite was the devoted aunt of Lorraine, Patricia (deceased), Richard (deceased), Robert, Pauline, John, Thomas, Marie, Maureen, Marguerite, Janet, Karen and Daniel Clancy and Edward P. Lombardi. Her family is indebted to the staff of Marian Manor for their devotion to and care of Marguerite during these past number of years.
